30 June - 2 July: Oriental, NC to Kingsmill Resort
Been very busy on the last part of this cruise! Below are pictures from Oriental to Norfolk to Kingsmill Resort near Colonial Williamsburg. Really enjoyed Oriental, NC. Great marina and inn and nice small town. Enjoyed two nights here. Then decided to do a long day (186 miles) to Norfolk. Stayed at Waterside Marina and watched U.S. soccer win at a local sports bar with hundreds of fans. On Kingsmill Resort pictures coming soon! Three nights here then heading home!

28 and 29 June - Carolina Beach and Oriental, NC
Finally back into NC! ICW much more friendly to express cruisers that like to run at 25 knots! Very few no wake zones and almost all boats are on lifts! Frist stop was Carolina Beach where we met our friends the Pidgeons and enjoyed a private yacht club pool! 29 June - Carolina Beach to Oriental. Easy cruise back into NC. Arrived at a great marina with pool and nice rooms. Decided we like it so much we are here for 2 days! Very nice small NC town with friendly people an

25 and 26 June - Charleston!
Decided to "go outside" from Hilton Head to Charleston. Atlantic was clam and it was nice not to have to continuously slow down in no wake zones or for other boats. Only down side was our autopilot went out. Kevin, Jenny and Lyra joined the crew in Charleston. Stayed at Charleston Harbor Resort. We swam, toured Charleston, had great food, and enjoyed an outdoor concert at the Resort! 27 June - Charleston to Grand Dunes Resort in Myrtle Beach

22 June - Hilton Head!!!
Left Charleston thru 98 miles of ICW to Hilton Head...several no wake zones but not as bad as Myrtle Beach area. Sharp One running great! Going from idle speed in the no wake areas to get back on plane has destroyed any hopes for good fuel consumption! Made it to our southern most destination! We will be here three nights. Beautiful marina that you might recognize if you watch golf (RBC Heritage). Looking forward to a couple of days of beach, biking, and relaxing! See if

20 & 21 June - Wacca Wache and Charleston
Sorry I missed yesterday's blog...it was a very long day with many no wake zone, shallow areas, and everyone with a boat in Myrtle Beach was out cruising! Today (21 June) was better but more shallow areas (we timed them to be at mid tide or higher so no problems), a couple of long no wake zones (especially thru Isle of Palms), and congestion as we hit Charleston Harbor. We are now in a marina near the historical district and will eat at SNOB (Slightly North of Broad) tonig

19 June - Bald Head Island
A stormy start of the day with 25 mph winds and gusts to 45 mpg Then the storm passed and we did a nice nature hike, then watched USA win, then a Mexican dinner followed by watching 100's of birds arrive at a small lagoon. Tomorrow looks good to depart Bald Head with northerly winds at 7 to 10 mpg. 74 miles to Wacca Wache Marina south of Myrtle Beach Murrells Inlet Marina - Wacca Wache Marina

18 June - Bald Head
Spent a great day at the Bald Head beach and exploring the island. No cars on the island and everyone rides golf carts or bike. Ocean was 78 degrees! Hartley also practiced for her two races for the Track National finals in Greensboro, NC on Saturday. She runs the anchor leg in the 4x100 and 4x200 for Bishop Ireton HS. Elizabeth and Hartley driving there (Paul joining from Alexandria). Elizabeth and Hartley will meet us in Charleston on Sunday. We will depart tomorrow (a

17 June - Belhaven to Bald Head!!
Sorry for the late post but yesterday was a very long day. The winds on Thursday and Friday will be very high along the NC coast (including the ICW) so we decided to skip Beaufort and go all the way to Bald Head...175 miles! It was an easy run except when we hit the Cape Fear River...last 10 miles we tough but we made it! Will explore Bald Head until Saturday then heading further south! 16 June - Coinjock to Belhaven, NC
Nice run today across Albemarle Sound then Alligator River to the nice small town of Belhaven. The Alligator River Canal stretches approximately 22 miles (35 kilometers) in length. This significant distance allows it to effectively manage water flow and drainage across a large area, contributing to the ecological balance and agricultural viability of the surrounding regions. The construction of the Alligator River Canal was primarily undertaken by the U.S. Army Corps of Eng

Elizabeth and Hartley joined us at Coinjock for the best Prime Rib! Heading to Belhaven, NC in the morning! Fun Fact about the ICW between Norfolk and Coinjock Did you know that the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) between Norfolk and Coinjock features the famous Coinjock Marina, which is known for its deliciou

14 June - Point Lookout to Norfolk (Portsmouth)
Nice run from the mouth of the Potomac, south on the Chesapeake Bay to Norfolk then Portsmouth. Waves were 1ft on our bow so a comfortable ride. Sharp One did great at about 26 mph on the open water. Passed lots of ships waiting to get into Norfolk. Also passed the Eisenhower carrier and the frigate F631 from Denmark. Across from our marina (Tidewater Yacht) is the Carnival ship Sunshine holding 3002 passengers heading to Bermuda! One downside...the last time we where at

13 June - Alexandria to Point Lookout, MD at the mouth of the Potomac River
Fun Fact about Point Lookout, MD Point Lookout, Maryland, is home to the historic Point Lookout Lighthouse, which was first lit in 1830. Interestingly, it is said to be haunted by the spirits of Civil War soldiers, as the area served as a Confederate prison camp during the war. Today, visitors often report mysterious sightings and sounds around the lighthouse, adding a spooky twist to its maritime history.
