Nice run today across Albemarle Sound then Alligator River to the nice small town of Belhaven.

The Alligator River Canal stretches approximately 22 miles (35 kilometers) in length. This significant distance allows it to effectively manage water flow and drainage across a large area, contributing to the ecological balance and agricultural viability of the surrounding regions.

The construction of the Alligator River Canal was primarily undertaken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Their efforts were aimed at improving water management in response to both flooding and agricultural needs in the area. The project was part of broader initiatives to enhance land use and promote conservation in North Carolina's coastal ecosystems.

Belhaven, NC is a nice small town. The Belhaven Marina is great...nice docks, showers, free laundry, dock hands, golf cart...highly recommend, We had a great Mexican dinner!
