Off on another adventure. This time with my sisters and their husbands (Trina/Gary and Judi/Bob). They will join us in Venice later this week but Joanne and I are spending a couple of days in Zurich before heading to Venice and doing a Silversea Cruise down the Croatian coast .

Thanks to Delta allowing to use our upgrade certificates to Zurich but not Venice we saved a alot of airfare .... but spending the difference in Zurich!
Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland, has a rich and diverse history that dates back over 2,000 years. Originally a Roman settlement known as "Turicum," it was established around 15 BC as a customs post along the Limmat River.
During the Middle Ages, Zurich became an important trade center. In 1218, it was granted the status of a free imperial city, which allowed it to govern itself independently. The city grew rapidly, both in population and economic power, becoming a hub for commerce and finance.
In the 16th century, Zurich played a crucial role in the Protestant Reformation, led by theologian Ulrich Zwingli. This movement significantly influenced the religious landscape of Switzerland and established Zurich as a center for Protestant thought.
The 19th century brought industrialization, transforming Zurich into a major economic center. The establishment of railways and the growth of banking and finance solidified its status as a leading city in Europe.
In the 20th century, Zurich continued to develop as a cultural and financial hub. It is known for its high quality of life, vibrant arts scene, and as a global financial center. Today, Zurich is recognized for its innovation and is home to numerous multinational corporations and institutions.
Overall, Zurich's history reflects its evolution from a Roman outpost to a modern metropolis, maintaining its significance in Switzerland and beyond.
